Trance, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Healing and Transformation

This seminar is an intensive training in how generative change processes can be cultivated within and around your self. Come prepared to enter a training community that is both safe and passionate. We will explore how to develop and use hypnotic and other bodymind learning states. Special emphasis will be on the relation of hypnosis to identity transformation in a person’s life. We will view symptoms as unconscious attempts at deep identity change, and see how creating hypnotic conditions of ritual space allows symptoms to become solutions. The training will include demonstrations, training exercises, intense personal work, group trance work, and lecture/discussion. The interplay of cognitive and experiential learning will be emphasized throughout.
Some of the topics we will cover:
- symptoms as solutions: the need for proper (trance) rituals
- trance and transformational identity: death and rebirth passages
- how to work creatively with trance
- working with various trance phenomena
- how to change negative trances (e.g., symptoms) into positive ones (solutions).
- beyond the Milton model: Post-Ericksonian approaches;
- deep trance identification: the ultimate modeling project
- how to develop and work within ritual space
- field-based modeling
- using the techniques for long-term development, in self and others
- the syntax and poetics of the bodymind
- the principle and practices of sponsorship
- the generative Self
- the heroes journey

Stephen Gilligan, Ph.D., is a Psychologist in Encinitas, California. He was a primary student of both Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson and one of the original NLP students. Stephen is reknowned as an extraordinary teacher, therapist, and writer in the fields of Ericksonian hypnosis and self-relations psychotherapy. In addition to many chapters and articles, he has published six books, including Therapeutic trances and The courage to love (both translated into German) and The legacy of Erickson. His trainings are always extraordinary experiences to remember! |
