Rio Abierto is an international network that was founded in Buenos Aires in 1966 by the psychologist Maria Adela Palcos. It supports and promotes people in their intellectual, physical, and psychological development. Its aim is not only the harmonious development of the individual, but also the individual's integration into his or her social context and the balance between personal needs and the requirements of society.
Rio Abierto essentially always works on three levels:
- physical/energetic
- emotional/psychological
- mental/intellectual
Music, energizing movement, and relaxation exercises are the central features of the Rio Abierto unit. It starts quite concretely with the individual needs, limitations, and possibilities of the human body. Joy and relaxation are experienced through dynamic, stimulating, and new movements that are accompanied by music. In individual and group exercises, participants are confronted with the concept of "me-you-we."
Once people are able to experience their flexible and nimble bodies consciously and in a self-assured way, their bodies also become part of a flexible "group body." This makes Rio Abierto a very effective method for group and team development.
The goal of Rio Abierto is to relearn to feel themselves again, to start experiencing themselves consciously, and to "wake up" their bodies, which store all their experiences and are an important and visible means of expressing personality.
